What SRT format variations does it support?

Standard SRT with numeric indices, timestamps in HH:MM:SS,mmm format, and one or more lines of subtitle text. Extended SRT tags like <i> are stripped.

Does it join subtitle lines into sentences?

Yes. Lines from the same subtitle block are joined with a space. Separate subtitle blocks are joined with a space or optional line break.
